WHAT IS AN ACADEMY?
An academy provides the foundation for a challenging program of study that leads to a student’s future career goals while they are in high school. The program is designed around a rigorous and relevant college-preparatory curriculum that is integrated within a career education major.
The academy teachers work in teams with small groups of students in each career academy to provide more individualized support and extensive career counseling for every student. The academic teachers and the career education teachers design course work together to maximize relevance for each subject.
Students can gain an edge on college preparation by being a dual enrollment student during their junior and senior year. Dual enrollment courses are part of the academy and will allow students to begin working on their AS or AA degree and take advantage of free tuition and free books.
WHY SHOULD I ENROLL IN AN ACADEMY?
The Academy concept is more student centered and parent friendly.
You can begin preparing for your career while earning your high school diploma and earning college credit.
Challenging courses will help you pass the FCAT
You earn weighted credit in Dual Enrollment and honors classes for GPA and Bright futures calculations.
Courses are designed to prepare you for the challenges of the workplace and college level work and you are less likely to need remediation in college and you will be more prepared for a high skill or high wage career.
Save money and time by starting your college work and job training while in high school. Supplies, books, tuition, and lab fees are free.
